Do 2 Pairs of Booties Equal 1 Pair of Socks?

Here we are, last day of June, last month of Sock A Month KAL and I've got nothin'... well, that's not quite true.

I've been knitting a pair of very nice Koigu socks for Mike. They might have actually been finished by today if I hadn't left them at work on Wednesday and wasn't able to retrieve them until Friday.

I finished the first Mock Mock Croc Sock, and even cast on for number 2, but we know that doesn't count as a finished pair.

What I have knit are two pairs of baby booties. They used sock yarn, they used sock needles (so I couldn't knit Koigu sock #2), they go on feet. Can I get a two sets of booties count as one pair of socks deal? Maybe?

These will be hanging around here waiting for the winter arrival of Tadpole! ...it seems to be time to get back to those baby knits... don't you think?

Magic Loop Much?

These needles have been getting a lot of use lately, almost all of it Magic Loop. When they finally were without yarn for long enough for me to look at them, check out what I saw!

Oooh, kinky! The good news is that the kinks aren't altering their functionality, and the mate to a not yet blogged about Koigu sock is sailing along on them again now. Hopefully I'll be able to finish these for my July entry into Sock of the Month, but if not I have some other things that I may try to slip in instead!

I was encouraged to see Kris's sock needles today, I guess mine aren't the only ones that kink... by the way, where is her STR kit? Did you get hers? If so, send it over, come on, it was just her birthday, and she has no socks on the needles, cut the girl a break!

I Went Shopping Yesterday!

I had a great day out, just me and a list of fun stores I wanted to go to... um including 3 yarn stores! The first two were on the way to the third, which is also a button store, and my final destination of the day. Come on, could you have resisted stopping at the two others when you were walking right by? (...and it was drizzling and I didn't have an umbrella!)

So, what was the first yarn purchase since finding out that the Tadpole is a girl? See for yourself.

That's right, black, white, tan, and brown... and all for the baby! I'm sure there will be some pink at some point, but all of this has a plan... and for you purists out there, I'm right with you, but sometimes Microspun has its place! You'll just have to wait to see what that place is!

Birdy Flew Away Home

Bird thanks you for all of your sweet thoughts. He lived with us for a full week and just thrived. I wish I'd taken a picture when I first found him; we couldn't even tell what type of bird he was and by yesterday morning he looked so feathery and healthy! He was like a different bird.

He got to be very affectionate with me and would come when called and flew to me whenever he saw me. I could tell when the upstairs neighbor was out because he'd have a totally different conversational tone. As much work as it was, and how much of a pain it was to feed him SO FREQUENTLY, I really liked that little guy.

I woke up yesterday morning, and fed him like usual, and that was the last I heard of him. He'd been hopping all over and flying a little for the few days leading up to then, and finally got enough strength to fly away.

Good luck little guy, we'll miss you in a "We're so glad you are gone" kind of way.

Nesting?

Monday, on my walk home, I found a baby bird on the sidewalk. Begging for food, not really moving, just waiting for help to arrive. The mothering instincts jumped in and next thing I knew I had a baby bird in a make-shift flower pot nest on my front porch.

Years ago, in Vermont, my cousin and I found ourselves in a similar situation with a nestfull of baby birds. Unfortunately those didn't make it through their first cold night without their mother, but they taught me what to do with this one.

It's now two full days later, the bird lasted through two nights, has been fed almost constantly during daylight hours, and took a little flight today! Internet research told me that he only had a 5-10% chance for survival, but this little guy has beaten the odds so far.

Unfortunately I forgot my camera today, so you will have to use your imaginations to see this silly little thing and I'll do my best to keep you updated.

So, is this what they mean by "nesting"?

A Gift For Tadpole's Mom!

Last week at Knitsmiths, the wonderfully generous Dani presented me with Natural Knits for Babies and Moms.

I hadn't seen this book yet, but it is such a winner! After I finish the Peapod Sweater, Ladybug Sweater, and a yet undescribed and not yet cast on for Christmas Sweater I'll have to pick up some yarn to make something from this book.

One more indication of what a great book this is: When I brought it home, Mike flipped through, and then went through more thoroughly giving opinions and pointing out his favorites.

In case you haven't been following the Tadpole's blog we had to push back the ultrasound, so we will now be having a checkup/ultrasound/sex determination early next Thursday morning. A bit over a week till we know. I know some of you have some very definite opinions on the sex of this baby, anyone else wish to pipe in?

Mmmm, Food!

Remember when I said I'd knit something already in the new apartment. Well, thanks to Alison I can share it with you guys while I wait two more weeks for the internet to be turned on at home!

I knit this little cupcake for my sister's 12th birthday! It's all leftovers that were in my stash and made in a single day. The pattern is from One Skein and, like so many other patterns in that book, I've loved it since I first flipped through the book!

Too many errands getting in the way of knitting these days to have anything else to report. Maybe, just maybe, there will be a new sock next week... maybe! Enjoy a wonderful summer weekend!

All Moved In!

Thanks to our amazing friends our move went really really really well on Saturday. By Sunday evening almost all of the boxes were unpacked and we were pretty settled. By last night it felt like we've been there for weeks! Now it's just some pictures on the walls and some boxes to pass on to another friend that's moving!

No internet at home for another two weeks or so, so it will be mostly pictureless blogging, but I'm hoping to get back into my 5 days a week schedule very soon. Maybe today is the first day of the rest of my blogging life... until December when an infant joins our household and then all bets are off! ;-)

Since we've moved in I've started and completed one knitting project, and knit almost an entire sock! Look forward to more info tomorrow and Friday. It's good to feel settled!

PS Only 128 bloglines feeds to catch up on! Not so bad!
