I found out on Monday that Kaya's little buddy only has one warm winter hat! ...and it's not even wool! Now I couldn't let him spend time in a knitter's house without having a handknit hat of his own... especially when he goes out with Kaya and all of her handknit goodness. It would just look like he was neglected. What's a knitter to do? Whip up a quick hat of course. What, other projects on the needles? I'll get to them later. Presenting: Buddy's hat! The Specs: A Quick Hat

We'll try it out on a walk with Naomi later today. I'm sure all of us will enjoy that!

I really love this sweater! I wore it again today and it's just perfect. There's no fiddling with the fit, pulling the sleeves, no thinking about it at all. I just wear it and love it! ...and the back: The Stats: I LOVE Nantucket

I really have to say again, I love this sweater. I really liked this yarn a lot too. It's squishy and superwash, and so reasonably priced. Way to go Knitpicks!

...will I have enough yarn? I wore my Nantucket Jacket to Knitsmiths yesterday, and I love it! Unfortunately there was never a photo shoot; maybe today while the babies are sleeping and there is still some sun... well, there won't be any sun today, but some daylight is seeping past the snowflakes. Despite the fact that there are no pictures to prove it, I can still move on to thinking about my next project... right? Over the summer Thea gave me this alpaca blend yarn. She said that it was enough for a sweater, but with no ball bands and no other information it was tough to tell. I'd hate to knit a sweater, the whole time wondering "Will I have enough yarn?". What is a former biochemist turned knitter to do? Pull out the analytical scale of course! First step, measure off one yard of yarn and weigh it. Next step, weigh each ball and figure out total amount of yarn I have in grams. After that, convert to yards using data previously acquired in step one. Next step, take a moment to admire the pattern I want to knit Last step, compare amount of yarn needed for pattern (9 balls Sublime DK = 1143yds) to amount that I calculated I own (1541.6 yards). Do a little dance for joy and then still worry that there won't be enough. I know my scale isn't accurate to many decimal places, but really, could I be off by 400 yards... it's doubtful. Now to cast on... oh right, not yet... I have a "knit-for-hire" sweater that I'm finishing for someone. I've made myself promise to knit one of the sleeves for that sweater before starting on this new one... it's going to be tough, but I must be disciplined! The Ever-present Question

I finished a sock this morning! ...a sock I've never blogged about. That means, to me, that it's been too long. As you know, I've been knitting quite a few socks lately while feeding Kaya. That, of course, means that I'm not blogging while I'm feeding Kaya! Hey, it's one or the other and Naomi likes to sit on my lap while I'm on the computer, so knitting it is! So, to catch you up I pulled out all of the SIPs. I was actually surprised that it was so few. Here they are: From left to right: As for the sweaters, you'll have to wait to see, but you won't be seeing any more "in progress" pics of the Nantucket Jacket! Woo hoo! Off to find a closure tomorrow and hopefully put it in in time for Knitsmiths on Sunday.Sock Parade

That's not too many socks, is it? I think I'm rockin' on the sock front.

We don't really celebrate Valentine's Day in our home, but I couldn't resist posting a picture of our dinner tonight. June can tell you how hard it is to take good pictures of food, but here's the best one. You certainly get the idea that we were eating pink food, off of red plates, with red juice! ...and I said we don't celebreate! And, in knitting news, I've been working on the sleeves for my Nantucket Jacket. I so want to wear this sweater, and my sleeves (two at a time) are almost to the sleeve caps so I sewed together the shoulders and collar today. Who knows how much longer the sleeves will take me, I primarilly knit while nursing the baby, and she's getting more efficient, which means less knitting time for me. I'm determined to be wearing this sweater soon though. Here it is in its red goodness! Valentine's Day

It's a Beet, Wild Mushroom, and Potato Casserole from this fabulous vegetarian cookbook. My best friend Miranda gave us this book years ago and I've been plowing through it. I highly recommend it to anyone who isn't a big meat eater.

So, the trade deadline was Friday evening, but seeing as how I haven't been on a computer since Friday morning here I am now Sunday evening to announce that I'll be sending my "Baltic Sea" Lorna's Laces to Kristen in exchange for the "Embers" colorway! Thanks for the offer Kristen, Mike will love the Embers colorway. Just a few weeks ago he said that he wanted to wear handknit socks that day, but had none that matched the shirt he was wearing. It happens that the "Embers" colorway will match that shirt wonderfully... now I just need to knit them! The Lorna's Laces designated needles are empty and ready!Trade Deadline

Did you want to trade me some fabulous Lorna's Laces Shepard Sock for my fabulous Lorna's Laces Shepard Sock in "Baltic Sea"? Make me an offer before tomorrow and I'll pick someone to send my yarn to. Don't know what I'm talking about? Go here. In other sock news, I finally wove in the ends of my Regia Silk socks and wore them. I guess that they count as my February socks for SAM3. I really like these socks, and either my floors have not been as cold, or the silk actually makes them warmer. If I decide it's #2 can I buy some more Regia Silk sock yarn? I'll have to see what new colors it's coming in these days! ...and don't forget to look through your forgotten LL stash for trade-able yarn. See you tomorrow evening with a trade! It's Almost Friday

I haven't started the second Taos sock yet, because those needles are being taken up by the Cables & Twists socks. I decided to just go with the pattern and see where it takes me. There was no adjusting stitch counts with this pattern, and I knit fairly tightly on socks. My stockinette swatch, on US2s came up with 8st/inch, not the 6.5st/inch that the pattern asked for! Really though, that's the perfect gauge for socks on 2s with 64 stitches, so I cast on. It's creating a really tight fabric that will keep my tootsies warm. Watch for progress on them soon.

We are getting ready for the Superbowl early this morning. Kaya is very excited that the Superbowl is falling on her 2 month birthday! She's getting big, but still not big enough to handle a football! Go to her blog to see some more 2 month pictures, and go Pats, no, go Jets, oh... neither are playing... go commercials and junk food!Superbowl Sunday

I am, apparently, extremely predictable in the yarn I buy for Mike's socks. I've been hoarding two skeins of Lorna's Laces Shepard Sock (my absolute favorite sock yarn), in "Baltic Sea" for a while now, waiting for the specially designated, only for Lorna's Laces, needles to be free. After finishing my "Labor Socks" the needles were free and ready to cast on... then I had to wait to visit a friend with a ball winder and swift, then I needed to wait for the neighbor to come over for a magic loop lesson (so that I had yarn to cast on with her). Finally all of the stars aligned and I cast on. I love the colorway, Mike will love the colorway. In fact, I'm SURE that Mike will love the colorway, because when I looked at his feet yesterday I realized that it's almost identical to his favorite Koigu socks. Don't believe me, look for yourself: Here's what I propose... Lorna's Laces Swap

They are a bit more green (and less purple) than this, but after 10+ pictures I settled on this one!
