Not A Knit

I have two finished knits to show, but they have to wait another week or two until they are gifted, so in place of the knits I give you another handmade gift.

Mom, this is one odd blanket... not too warm either.

Hey, so that's what the noise was during my nap!
Pretty cool, read it to me P L E A S E!

Sorry Kaya, it's a gift for your little cousin's first birthday! Don't worry though, there is fabric hanging around for two books for you. Keep on taking those long naps and I may actually get them made for you!

One Last Knit

...although I may finish another today! Kaya is just the best little model for knit items, how can I not keep knitting more!

Project Specs:

This is a really great pattern. It's gotten tons of compliments on the street... although everyone assumes she's a boy in it. Um, beads people, beads.

While I was dressing Kaya this weekend I did realize that I've never knit her anything pink! She really needs a pink sweater, so on the way to two different birthday parties this weekend I got started on a new pink sweater for her. Hopefully I'll finish it before she outgrows it or it becomes summer. Priorities!

Truelove

I went out last night without Kaya. When I got home I could not stop hugging, kissing, and squeezing that little baby girl! That is truelove. Amazing this motherhood thing!

Before Kaya was born I knit a sweater for her from Rowan Babies called "Truelove". I showed some progress pics of it, but never the real thing. She wore it to her first Knitsmiths appearance at two weeks old; (picture here on the Knitsmiths site).

...and she wore it earlier this week, quick before she grows out of it!

Can you believe the difference in three months! I can't believe that I was taking her out to Knitsmiths when she was so tiny... I can't believe that she ever WAS so tiny!

My Secret Weapon

For the second year in a row my March Madness pics are up at the top of the leader board. I do have to admit, I don't do it alone... I get some help:

Let's see if the "Sweet 16" round can treat me as well. Hey, this might actually make me like basketball... or gambling! Mama needs a new pair of shoes (or sock yarn to go in those shoes)!

Bloggers Who Book

Have you noticed how many bloggers are getting book deals? It's awesome that our small (okay pretty large) knit-blog community can boost peoples careers like that! What a great outlet.

I was asked by Jackie to help knit swatches for her upcoming stitch dictionary for Quirk Books. I was happy to help out. Four swatches in simple stitch patterns. That sounds like a great way to create a finished object without much effort, and helping a friend at the same time.

Can you even stand how fabulous that picture is! Starting from the top left and working clockwise you see: Cable Rib, Diagonal Rib, 3x3 rib, and Mistake Rib. Phew.

Off to knit on something for ME!

So Much To Share

...so little time to share it. Okay, really so little desire to take the little time I have to share it and upload pictures and compose a post. It's one of those things I want to be done, but I don't want to do... like laundry, and dishes, and dusting. Gosh, writing it that way, why do I keep up a blog at all. I guess I really do love it! So here we go:

I knit this little sweater last year just before I saw this:

It took until after Kaya was born to get the zipper in it though! I love this little sweater, even if it is more "boy" than "girl". She's pretty enough to pull it off... don't you think?

Project Specs:

Here's a little close-up on the detail. I love how the sleeves look like little fences. I like to think that they are keeping the sheepies in line!

So, how many other projects are there around here that I've never blogged about? At least three that I can think of! I'd better get out that camera and get snappin'!

Mail Time

Here's the mail it never fails, it makes me want to wag my tail, and when it comes I wanna wail MAIL!

Having a baby makes the mail man work very hard. We are still getting wonderful, thoughtful packages for that little tadpole. (Have you seen her three month pictures on her blog? They were so much fun to take this month. We love getting mail for her, but yarny mail is even more fun!

An old friend of mine is close to launching his own little bamboo clothing line and found some bamboo yarn and thought of me. I think he was a bit dissapointed to learn that I already knew about bamboo yarn, and had even knit a sweater with 100% bamboo yarn, but this yarn is new to me.

The yarn is from EcoDesignz. Worsted weight, 280 yards in that little ball! Now I've got to get designing. It was designated as something for Kaya, so I'll have to make a cute little springy sweater for her... after I clear something else off of the plate! I'll be sure to let you all know what I think of this new yarn, but first impressions are looking good! It's many plies, but woven together so they won't split... that was the worst thing with the Classic Elite Bamboo yarn. I think we may have a winner here.

Is there anyone else out there that's seen or worked with this yarn before? I'd love to hear your comments.

Knitting Freedom

I finished the first sleeve on my "knit-for-hire" project, so I got to swatch and cast on for my "Divine" cardigan!

Tell me that isn't the best knitblog picture you've ever seen!

What I didn't realize, or think about, was that this sweater is really just a stockinette sweater in DK weight yarn. That's A LOT OF STOCKINETTE! It works well for my pick up and put down type of knitting lately, but still, a lot of stockinette. This would be a great knitting in the middle of the night project, but (and I'm so not complaining), Kaya is barely waking up in the middle of the night any more! One quick feeding around 4:30AM and that's it. Everyone is sleeping well, but the knitting is suffering!

Off to knit for a bit while everyone is napping.
