Our long weekend was positively lovely! We saw lots of family and friends, had some busy times, had many relaxing times, and most importantly, I finished up my RPM socks! Kaya thinks they are for her, but I beg to differ. Project Specs Our Long Weekend

Yeah for SAM3 for getting me to finish these socks in a somewhat timely manner. I even cast on for my Sockapalooza 4 socks last night. I can't wait to see how that yarn knits up. I hope that the colors meld together well. Only knitting time will tell!

All of the knitting I have to speak of this week is one heel of one sock. How sad! This week has been very busy with all sorts of good things, and it's made me way too tired to knit more than a row or two.
We are leaving tomorrow afternoon for the long weekend at my mom's, so hopefully I'll come back with a finished pair of socks for May. SAM3 is counting on me!What a Heel

Danielle's comment last week made me realize that I never told you about my Sockapalooza 4 progress! As I aspired to in my last post, I finished the first Cable and Rib sock that night... see: ...and a close-up of the cable. Even in real life it doesn't pop much more than in this picture: Then I sat for a while with a beautiful hank of yarn, and a set of empty needles... and sat... and sat, until finally I gave the hank to Alison, and she returned it to me all wound up on Sunday! So... why haven't I cast on yet? I now have two single socks, waiting for mates, and waiting for those US 2 29" needles. These are definitely not my preferred sock needles, but all of the sudden there are three potential socks to be knit on them... and mine is VERY kinky. Enter a little North Shore (of Boston) yarn crawl, (more details with pictures are on Alison's blog), and I have a new set of 29" US 2s! ...oh, and some yarn! So, have I cast on yet? Nope... maybe tomorrow!Sockapalooza Progress

Needles and purple yarn from Yarn Over Marblehead which is having a 20% off of the entire store sale for their 4th anniversary, and green Gems Opal from Cranberry Quilters in Hamilton. I wish we'd had more time at that store, we'll definitely go again!

Here is everything I need for Sockapalooooza! I've got some yarn (Ellen's Half Pint Farm sock yarn), a pattern (Dublin Bay link is to a pdf) and some needles. Only one problem... the needles are in use! I've been knitting this particular sock for a long time now. I first posted about it here, and it's been growing, slowly, ever since. I don't want my sock pal to have cold feet though, so I'm off to knit knit away on it... do you think I can knit a toe tonight and free up those needles? I hope the Dublin Bay pattern is enough fun for my pal... there is so much pressure to do everything just right, but I think the large amounts of stockinette will show off this yarn nicely, with a little window of fun running up the sides. Would you like these socks? They may be yours, keep an eye on your mailbox in August!Everything I Need

I recently joined the local chapter of International MOMS Club and shortly after I joined... okay, the same day... they found out I was a knitter! I was recruited to lead a knitting group, which really has become a knitting class for beginners. When I used to teach beginner classes we would make hats, but I wanted something a bit more fun for this class. What's more fun than a toy? It's a 4" cube with a different stitch pattern on each face. It's a great beginner project, because the stitches become more complicated as you go. It's also a great small gift, shower gift, or toy for your child. Kaya seems to like it. I had to write up the pattern for the MOMS Club, so here it is for you guys also... have fun, and drop me a line if you make one yourself. Knit Toy Block Materials: Worsted Weight Yarn US #6 Needles 4" foam cube darning needle Note on Construction: This cube is made with one long strip and then two end squares. The beginning and end of the strip will be joined together and the extra two squares will seal off the ends. Block 1: Garter Stitch Cast On 22 stitches. Knit every row until piece measures 4" from cast on edge. Block 2: Stockinette Stitch Row 1: Knit Row 2: Purl Repeat rows 1 and 2 until block measures 4" ending having knit a row. Next Row: Knit (Note:This would normally be a purl row if you were continuing with the pattern stitch. This will be a "turning row" and will make a nice corner when the block is sewn together.) Block 3: Seed Stitch Row 1: *K1, P1* Repeat to the end of the row. Row 2: *P1, K1* Repeat to the end of the row. Repeat rows 1 and 2 until block measures 4" ending having worked Row 1. Next Row: Knit (Again, this is your turning row.) Block 4: Squares Rows 1-14:K11, P11 Rows 15-27:P11, K11 Next Row (Wrong Side): Bind off Knitwise. Block 5: Ribbing Cast on 24 stitches. Row 1: K3, P3 Repeat Row 1 until piece measures 4". Bind off in rib. Block 6: Cables Cast on 26 stitches. Row 1: P 9, K8, P9 Row 2: K9, P8, K9 Row 3: P 9, K8, P9 Row 4: K9, P8, K9 Row 5: P9, put next 4 stitches on cable needle(cn) and hold in back, knit 4, knit 4 from cn, P9 Row 6: K9, P8, K9 Row 7: P 9, K8, P9 Row 8: K9, P8, K9 Repeat Rows 1-8 until block measures 4". Bind off in pattern. Finishing: Sew Cast on edge of strip to bound off edge. Sew cable square onto square formed by sewing the strip together. Sew one side of ribbing block onto the cube. Insert foam square. Sew up final three sides of ribbing block. Push any ends through to inside of cube.I Knit Something!
