Bordering on Rediculous... or Already There?

I knit the Pinwheel Sweater in a week... it's taken me three to get it up on the blog! Kaya wore it out on our walk this morning and we were finally able to get some pictures. In my defense, it has been over 80 degrees here for the last seven days, and it would have just be cruel to put a baby in a sweater for a photo shoot... what's that... before it started to be 80... I'm sorry, I didn't hear you!

My glamor shot!

I'm a turtle... this could be my Halloween costume!

Even the front is nice... but it may need a closure of some sort.

Pinwheel Envy

Alison's pinwheel has been my driving force this week... she knit it in a weekend... I'll knit it in one night! Um, not so much. I cast on and two hours later I'd knit a bit past the armholes. Since then I've finished the body and I'm 25% through the loopy edge. This is a fun knit. Changing colors so often is great. I really wanted to see how the brown looked with the rest so I had to knit quickly to get there. The loopy edge has been fun too. I'll try to take another bite out of it later today.

I'm trying to not neglect the shoes while getting some knitting in. I finished a few pairs yesterday and I'm working on getting them into my Etsy shop, Kaya's Kloset. Some are special orders, but if you like what you see I could make you a pair too.

Now let's add some laundry, dish washing and food prep before Kaya wakes from her nap... doable?

Tempting Pretty Colors

Every time my blog opens I see those pretty pinwheel colors... the yarn, it still looks exactly like that! I'd love to cast on, but I had no needles to do so!

Finally, today I was able to take a trip out to visit a new yarn store I'd heard about in Dedham, MA. Apparently Newbury Yarns has opened a second store. It says nothing about it on their site. I couldn't find anything else online about it, but I saw a comment months ago (March to be exact) on Knitigator Kathy's blog saying that there was a new yarn store in Dedham and I followed up on it.

Great, so I got directions, drove out there... little sign on the door said "Sorry we'll be closed Tuesday Sept 4th. We'll be open on Wednesday as usual, sorry for the inconvenience." Arg... I finally get to this obscure store totally not in my neighborhood and this is what happens. Funny thing is, last November I made my way to another obscure store called Edwina's Knitch and same deal... sorry, closed today, should have been open but heard you were coming and decided to close instead. Edwina's Knitch is much more out of my neighborhood and that was probably the only time I'll end up there. le sigh.

There is a good ending to this story. I'm totally not a needle snob. In fact, I really like the Susan Bates needles. Off to JoAnn's I went with my 40% off coupon and out I walked with a $3 pair of US8s. I can cast on tonight!

The other good news is that, because I didn't have needles to start the Pinwheel sweater, I knit the first sleeve of Kaya's other new sweater... the one out of Soft Sea Wool. I started the second sleeve yesterday too, but opted for an early bed time rather than a late knitting night. If I knit my Pinwheel as fast as Alison did we may be in for two FOs in the near future!

Pinwheel

Alison and I are taking the babies to Rhinebeck this year. Last year they were contained in our bellies... this year they need sweaters! We both settled on the same sweater to make for them, and Alison's is well on its way, so I'd better catch up!

I'm making the Pinweel sweater from Elann out of Knitpicks Swish. I'll cast on as soon as I buy a new set of needles, but for now I'm in some comfy clothes and not leaving the house so I'll just gaze lovingly at the colors I chose.

Aloe, Baby Blue, Capri, Deep Ocean, Dark Navy, Bordeaux, Truffle

The light green will be the center progressing to a chocolate brown ruffle. It gets a bit dark at the end, but I think the Bordeaux will set off the navy and chocolate nicely. We'll see... how long until Rhinebeck? I'd better get knitting!
