Sew Nice!

The day after Thanksgiving every year my mom and I take the train into NYC. We usually see a show (none this year due to the strike and the baby), go to a museum (the American Folk Art Museum this year), and check out some yarn stores.

I'm not knitting as much as I used to (and therefore not blogging about the lack of knitting), but I still needed to go somewhere new... right? We've been all over in the past, but this year I wanted to go to Purl.

Well, I really wanted to go to Purl Patchwork to pick up a signed copy of Last Minute Patchwork and Quilted Gifts, but I wasn't going to pass up the yarn store too!

As everyone always says, it was a small store! Honestly though, I was ready for smaller because of what everyone always says about it. It is stocked to the brim with fabulous yarns though. When one goes to Purl, how can they leave without some Koigu? Well, I looked, and I picked mine, and then I put it back. Bad knitter! I'm just not knitting socks like I used to, and so I took my money a half a block west and ended up inside of Purl Patchwork.

Ooooh, what a lovely store. Beautiful fabrics floor to ceiling. Samples from Last Minute Patchwork and Quilted Gifts. Fat quarters that were all too beautiful to choose from. ...and a nice woman working there too. It got a bit busy, and she was the only one there, but she took care of everyone in such a smooth fashion. It was great!

I ended up with two fabrics for shoes and a crazy fabric for pants for Kaya! I just loved it. I couldn't leave it. It wouldn't have worked for shoes, so I'll have to figure out how to sew some pants for the spring!

All of this made for a lovely fabric and yarn shopping experience, but what made it even better is that they made some room in the back of oh so small Purl for me to change Kaya's diaper. Neither store had enough room to change a baby. Both stores thought the other had more room, but they let me take up the two square feet of space in the back of Purl to change her and did it with such grace. Thank you Purl!
